The President is an Alien
He is orange. He cannot seem to use the English language very well. He does like birds do. He tweets. All the time.
As the time of 45 at the helm drags on, I am becoming more and more convinced that he is an alien. Not like an alien as used in immigration terms, but a real alien, like one of those in the Men in Black movies.
It is time he showed us his birth certificate. And his tax returns.
Perhaps it is some kind of mind control technique akin to his particular alien species that has convinced so many good Americans that he actually had plans to help them. Fox news has beamed the alien mind control into American homes so that millions are infected. What other reasonable explanation is there? Surely no one in their right mind could ignore the "grab them by the pussy" remarks, watch the mocking contortions of the disabled and believe the lie after lie after lie after lie the alien spits out day after day.
Those infected need to remember: America is great. It always has been. Don't let the charlatan ruin it.

What's True, What's Not, What's In Between and What's Russian
In the cyber world of "news" it is increasingly difficult to know what is real news and what is fake or has been doctored. In another era it was called propaganda but that's a four syllable word but people would much rather use a four letter word rather than understand what propaganda is.
Now I'm a facebook user. It's great to see photos of the grands and all, but gosh the crap posted on facebook as "news" is really getting aggravating. I was pretty close to giving the whole thing up except that would mean the perpetrators would win, or Russians..
In the past six months I've seen one news site say the leader of the free world talked trash at the United Nations to other nation leaders, and degraded our status in the world, taunting an unstable dictator over nuclear weapons and showing general disrespect for the office of president. Wait, what? This is true? WHAT?
And then there's the controversy with the kneeling football players. There was some post that said the Department of Defense actually paid the NFL for such patriotic displays as standing on the field during the National Anthem so that the wife beating, dog fight promoting players would appear more patriotic, thus increasing national patriotism as fans watched their football heroes displaying rote patriotism. Wait, what? That's true too?? Really. Well, as much as I love my country, I wouldn't stand for that either. Being paid to be patriotic, really? Besides, people must know it's a higher act of patriotism to genuinely express your opinion in a free state than it is to place your hand across your heart in pretend love of country.
And then, THEN there was this post that said the president in a speach said that there was violence on both sides with the racist white extremists in the Charlottesville demonstration and the people who resisted such hate demonstrations. Are we trumping hate yet?
And more recently, following the Florida high school shooting tragedy, a kid who was previously on television about an incident with his friend and a life guard while in California(not a shooting), was targeted by fake news seeking to discredit him. That can't be true. Are there that many gullible people out there to believe such junk?
And they say the dumb rich guy who went bankrupt numerous times, bragged about grabbing women's pussies and promoted the idea that our president was born in Kenya was actually elected president himself? As if Hawaii wasn't a state. Oh My G. The news actually says he was elected president. Oh wait, that's true? OMG. We are the laughing stock of the world. The conspiracy theorists are taking over our country. The founding fathers are rolling in their grave.
I'm about ready to give up social media. But wait, if there is no one to call them out on the lies, that means the spreaders of this propaganda win and we could be headed for another 1930's Germany. Heck no, I won't go. And don't you either. Keep correcting what you see as falsehoods. State the facts. Speak the truth. And the truth shall keep us free.

Show Me the Birth Certificate. The Long Form!
He who shall not be named came to political popularity advocating the conspiracy theory that his predecessor was not born in the United States. Never mind that the guys mom was a white woman from Kansas and he was born in Honolulu Hawaii verified, even by the medical staff who were there. Despite those facts, He who shall not be named....okay, that is tedious, I will name him. I will call him Trumpamort,
Trumpamort persisted in pushing the lie and only finally admitted in September 2016 that he was incorrect. Our former president was one hundred percent American Citizen. Trumpamort said so, finally.
It is an old adage that a good offense is the best defense. Based on Trumpamorts insistence on spreading the lie, I would like to propose a theory of my own:
TRUMP was not born in the United States. He is an alien. An alien out to destroy the world.
I base this theory on these facts:
-his skin color is orange.
-he has difficulty communicating in the English language(read conservative columnist George Will's examination of this problem)
-he has special tweeting ability to spread hate and discord
-he has the ability to brainwash ordinary Americans into voting for him despite the fact that his rich man's agenda is detrimental to their own well being. Somehow he has convinced millions to cut off their nose to spite their face.
-he has single-handedly put the entire Earth in jeopardy by pulling out of the Paris climate agreement.
If you have watched Third Rock from the Sun you know that what I am telling you here is possible, and I say, probable.
If he was born here, I want to see his birth certificate. All Americans need to demand to see the alien's birth certificate. And make sure its the long form And it better not say Area 51 as his home town! Or Orangeman as his ethnicity!

Trying to Run the Local Paper Out of Town
The way the Orange Guy in the White House is waging war against major newspapers reminds me of T. Boone Pickens and his fight with the Amarillo newspaper that criticized him back in 1986, He told his 400 employees at the company Christmas party to cancel their subscriptions. Does the Orange Guy in the White House think that millions will stop watching CNN, cancel their subscriptions to the Wall Street Journal and Huffington Post and that they will stop reporting about what he is doing to this nation?
Here's what happened with T. Boone and the Amarillo Globe News , according to an article in The Chicago Tribune by Paul Weingarten, November 26, 1987:
Here's what happened with T. Boone and the Amarillo Globe News , according to an article in The Chicago Tribune by Paul Weingarten, November 26, 1987:
"The defiant rallying cry for the evening referred not to any politician or local football team, but to what seems a most unlikely subject for such an impassioned assemblage: the Amarillo Globe-News, the town`s monopoly daily newspaper, circulation 71,000.
``The Globe News,`` declared Paul Engler, president of a group calling itself the Panhandle Citizens for a Better Amarillo Newspaper is ``nationally known for its shabby journalism and its reputation has shed a bad light on our Panhandle communities.``
It was the opening volley in a well-orchestrated and heavily financed campaign to boycott the newspaper and force its sale because of perceived
``negative and slanted`` news coverage.
The spark that galvanized the group of business and civic leaders in Amarillo-most prominent among them the oilman and corporate raider T. Boone Pickens-apparently was an eight-part series that explored racism against Hispanics in the neighboring town of Hereford.
``It was devastating to the community,`` says Hereford Mayor Wes Fisher, who fears bad publicity will discourage newcomers to this heavily Hispanic town of 16,000.
Fisher turned to Pickens, who had led an earlier crusade against the Globe-News after the paper disclosed cost overruns last year at West Texas State University, where Pickens is chairman of the Board of Regents.
The battle reflects deep frustrations in the Panhandle region, which has been among the hardest hit in Texas` economic slump. Downtown Amarillo is riddled with boarded-up businesses, and bankruptcies and bank failures continue to soar as prices for agricultural commodities, natural gas and oil remain low.
``The paper should be a positive force towards bringing new economic development into the Panhandle,`` asserts Mark Davis, a local carpet merchant. Outside the Panhandle, the confrontation is stirring debate over such issues as freedom of the press, and the influence of powerful business interests in this community of 182,000.
``This sounds like the old lynch-mob attitude,`` says Phil Record, former national president of the Society of Professional Journalists and associate executive editor of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. ``If you`re unhappy with the messenger, let`s hang him.``
``Bottom line, it`s a 1st Amendment issue,`` says Garet von Netzer, executive editor of the Amarillo Globe-News papers. ``Does a paper have the right to serve the public`s right to know . . . whether it`s negative or positive stories?``"``It`s a lousy newspaper,`` retorts Pickens, recently proclaimed by a state magazine as the second most powerful man in Texas. (Dallas billionaire H. Ross Perot was first.)
The Panhandle Citizens last week launched its unprecedented campaign, issuing a press packet stuffed with ``I Canceled`` bumper stickers, buttons, and a videotape featuring local news programs.
In an open letter, the Citizens urged 120 advertisers to ``cut back`` by 25 percent on their advertising and asked Amarillo residents to cancel their subscriptions.
The campaign is already claiming victory on one front. Last week, Globe-News General Manager Jerry Huff was reassigned to coordinate coverage of the 1988 presidential campaign for the 19 newspapers in the Morris
Communications chain, based in Augusta, Ga.
``The timing was terrible,`` Von Netzer admits, but he said plans for the new post had been in the works for ``at least six months.``
The paper also has lost about 500 subscriptions and several pages of advertising since the boycott began, said Carl Cannon, group newspaper manager for Morris Communications.
``It`s sure a pretty skinny paper this morning,`` chuckled Bill Gilliland, a local car dealer and member of the Panhandle Citizens. ``You`d have a hard time starting a fire with it.``
Those who attended the rally voiced complaints about a wide range of the newspaper`s coverage, including politics, sports, the arts and social services.
The key word in their complaints was ``negative,`` which often translated into ``investigative.``
``I don`t like the word investigative,`` says Gilliland, ``because I think we need some of that in our society, but it would probably go better in the Washington Post or the Chicago Tribune, not in a small town like Amarillo.``
``Have you ever heard of the Amarillo paper listed among those honored for investigative reporting?`` asks Von Netzer, noting that the paper has only one half-time ``or less`` investigative reporter.
The paper responded to the criticism this week by announcing it will appoint an ombudsman to field reader complaints, and enlist a liaison group of community residents and business leaders to meet regularly with editors to air grievances.
``We try to be as upbeat as possible,`` says Von Netzer, ``but it`s a terribly frustrating time for people, and we have got to tell people what is going on. You don`t make progress in America by supressing news. Once you start, where does that end?``
Read that last paragraph again:but it`s a terribly frustrating time for people, and we have got to tell people what is going on. You don`t make progress in America by supressing news. Once you start, where does that end?``
Same story different day.

What I learned at the Jefferson County Democratic Meeting
Being alarmed by the election of He who Shall Not be Named, I decided I needed to get more politically involved. So, me and a lot of other people who had the same idea attended the Jefferson County Democratic meeting downtown Watertown last night.
What I learned:
-in a recent election for district attorney only 16 percent of registered Democrats voted
-Aaron Woolf offered a million dollars of his own money to run for Congress in 2014, Mike Derrick offered a half million
-the only 'viable' candidate for congress is one with lots (and lots) of money.
-the prevailing attitude regarding the office of Congresswoman for our district currently held by the young Republican woman who had lots and lots and lots(and still has lots) of money is that it is unwinnable for Democrats.
-a young woman volunteering to help with registration and who has attended the last three meetings was largely ignored. Told it was her responsibility to "get aggressive".
-that there are plenty of openings on the Jefferson county Democratic Committee in outlying districts. Four open in Henderson alone.
-that there is a core of dedicated folks who have kept the Democratic party in the North Country going somehow despite being overwhelmingly outnumbered.
-that to change things requires thinking out of the box.
My suggestions:
-try a go fund me page as well as a pancake breakfast.
-get savvy with social media. Tweet. Our new commander, He Who Shall Not be Named tweets nasty crap. Give it back.
-greet new people who show up at meetings with open arms. I got the feeling from the folks who have been doing this for years that we were looked upon as tourists and that once the tourists went away you'd just go back to doing things the way you always have been.
What I am going to do now after all I have learned:
-check out the Independent Party
-maybe start my own party. Remember the Guy who ran for Governor on The Rent is Too Damn High ticket? He didn't win but raised a little heck, got some issues out there, got his point across, got people thinking. In many ways this seems more productive than searching for the next person with lots and lots of money to waste in a defeatist district that is pretty sure that they can't win anyway.
It was a bit disheartening. Yes. But, never the less, I will persist.

Moving to a Swing State
Forget Canada. I have a brilliant idea for like minded folk worrying about the future of our country. If you live in say, California or New York and want to make your vote really count in the next election, consider moving to a swing state. North Carolina could certainly use more Democrats and also Florida. And don't just go to the Democratic strongholds. Go to the districts where Republicans outnumber those not brainwashed yet by Fox news and establish residency.
If you say, well I just can't up and move everything, I can't afford this, ask a rich guy for help. Bill Gates and the guys at Google might help you out as they seem concerned. Also, Mark Zuckerburg, whose Facebook company unknowingly helped the dark side take over through fake news, might be feeling especially guilty by now and pay for your move. It wouldn't hurt to ask. Message him.
Twelve score and one year ago, our fathers brought forth, upon this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men (and now, everybody else, including women!) ....................and that the government of the people by the people for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
I'm heading to Florida. See ya there!

They are Rolling Over in their Graves
It was just a week ago that He Who Shall Not Be Mentioned took the Oath of office of President to uphold the Constitution of the United States, the law of the land. But if anyone heard the daily rumble in Philly and Virginia its these guys, our founding fathers, rolling over and over and over in their graves.
The Not My President swore on two bibles that he would do it. But I think he needs to read it first. Here's a little chart that might help. Notice that the Legislature makes laws. The President can't. But that is exactly what he who shall not be named is doing with the "executive orders".
Senator John McCain endured torture in our defense, can't you and other representatives with a conscious speak up???? You guys MAKE the laws, not him. Somebody with some kind of power has to speak up, NOW, not four years from now, not four weeks, but NOW.

The Women's Rally in Washington
There's me, hovering over the top. There in spirit. Didn't make it due to sciatica acting up, but with you all just the same. Ladies and gentlemen, women and men, and especially our young people for whom all over the world for whom this pro human rights anti hate message matters the most.
The March in D.C got so big it clogged the march route and turned into a massive rally. I've been looking for the Tweeter in Chief's twit that says Soros paid for all of these folks to attend. He hasn't come out with it yet. Hopefully, he is figuring out that there is a lot more to being ruler of the free world than being a propagandist on Tweeter. Or, maybe he's busy reading that little document, The Constitution that he swore to uphold.
Anyway, its not about him so much as it is about US. US not just marching, rallying but organizing, voting, running for office, demanding accountability. We may have lost our way, but we can find our way back. Yes, we can.
Its going to be tough. For a democracy to work its electorate must be well informed. And when you are long since past the days of Walter Conkrite telling us that is the way it is, its every newsman or woman for himself. Every scewed Facebook post, every nasty right wing or left wing newsite with made up "news" is out there. I hate to say it Mark Zuckerberg and gang, but you are partially responsible for this mess. I personally know several people who have Fox News on the television in their livingroom from morning till night. People constantly exposed to that kind of propaganda undergo a kind of brainwashing after awhile. As Obama has said, "I wouldn't like me if I watched Fox News." So what's the answer? First, when you see something posted, CONSIDER THE SOURCE, There are plenty of "news" that is actually, propaganda. Call it fake, untrue or whatever you want, but its propaganda, aimed at getting you to believe a certain way. Without it the NAZI party would have never come to power. Think that one over carefully.
To America who is Already GREAT, all my best,
Bea

Can We Impeach Him Yet?
I know he is not technically President yet, and Nicole Kidman says give him a chance and all that but really, its time that this pussy grabbing, conspiracy theory thumping, bankruptcy filing, mean spirited man is fired.
He is That Who Cannot be Named, and he goes by many names, Racist, Mysogonist but I prefer The Obnoxious One. America deserves better than this. Yes, I know, the country survived Nixon, the corruption of Warren Harding and the gambling and drinking days of Ulysses S. Grant, but that was in the days before the internet. Now we have the most annoying, objectionable individual about to take over. Let's not wait to see if we survive as a nation. Get over your shock that Americans actually voted for him and get going. Start the impeachment proceedings now.
So on what grounds you ask? You know, first of all, I'd like to see his birth certificate. Was he REALLY born in the United States? Sometimes he does seem like an alien. Seems like all the fuss he made about our President from Hawaii may have been a cover up for himself. The best defense is a good offense as they say.
Secondly, it doesn't seem like he has read the constitution, the LAW of the land. How can he be sworn in when he doesn't even fully understand things like Freedom of the Press and the bill of rights??
So call your congressperson, spread the word. Impeach The Obnoxious One now!!

Will Somebody Please Fire Him!
Calling all Republicans: Will somebody help?! I know plenty of non racist, non hate mongering, non vulgar, non sexist stand up Republicans. Can't you step up to the plate and go vote against this guy?

The Donald and the (Watertown) Dumb Asses
Gigi: Donald, I've got that lady from Watertown on the line again.
The Donald Trump: Okay, okay, put her through.
Lady: Oh Donald, I hate to bother you but-
The Donald: Never be sorry. Us one percenters have to stick together.
Lady:(whimpers) I did what you said but it's been terrible. It's all over the news! They're even calling us dumb asses!
The Donald: Calm down, calm down. so you got the law changed right?
Lady: Yes. Our fellow one percenters on the council understood completely about neighbors and they changed the law right away. So many cars in the driveway! So many unrelated people in one home!
The Donald: Good. It's good when us one percenters stick together.
Lady: But now they've got t he liberal media on their side and their calling me and the Watertown city council that voted for this law dumbasses!
The Donald: Who's calling you a dumb ass?
Lady: Drew Carey.
The Donald: I knew he wasn't really one percent. I'll get him fired!
Lady: But it's not just him. There were all these people at the city council meeting trying to get the law changed.
The Donald: They were probably all related to your neighbor.
Lady: I don't think so. They all looked so (starts sobbing) UNRELATED!
The Donald: Calm down. What you need to do is tell the council to require birth certificates.
Lady: Huh?
The Donald: Make them pass a law to require all residents produce long form birth certificates to prove they can reside in the country.
Lady: But I'm pretty sure they are U.S. citizens. They look like it.
The Donald: Doesn't matter. It will divert the public's attention. Even if they are born in the U.S. you'll put that element of doubt in the public's mind and they'll leave you alone.
Lady: Reallly?
The Donald: Of course. No one wants illegal aliens as neighbors. They'll forget all about the other issue.
Lady: I see. Thank you.
The Donald: That's okay. Anything for a fellow one percenter.
(Hangs up)
Gigi!
The Donald: Get me the CEO of the Price is Wrong on the line.
Gigi: Right.
The Donald: We'll show that Drew Carey. Stick up for the little guy will he. We'll teach him that the one percent have to stick together.

I Am the 47 Percent
(Mitt) The Huckster was so slick, he shined on national TV. A lot of numbers were thrown out by the Huckster, but there is one he failed to mention on national TV and that is 47. He reserves that number to say in private meetings with his fellow one percent.
"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. There are 47 percent who are with him, who depend on government, who believe they are victims, who belive the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe they are entitled to health care, to housing, you-name-it - that that's entitlement. And the goverment should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. ..These are the people who pay no income tax...My job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."
Well, I collect social security, and I don't make enough on that and a little pension to pay federal taxes anymore. So I am one of the 47 percent. I get medicare and I want to keep it. I spent a good portion paying into the system and I want to use it. I am old and yes, the government should give it to me and in my old age, I want to be sure I am taken care of. Medicare helps ensure me that I will be. I am one of the 47 percent.
I don't pay any federal income tax, but I pay taxes. I pay taxes on my property. I pay taxes when I buy the government subidized gasoline. I pay taxes on my telephone, my clothes on my back and my toilet paper. I am one of the 47 percent. But I ain't no victim. I raised my children, buried my husband, worked all my life, encouraged my grandchildren to watch sesame street and educational programs that would not be on television if it where up to The Huckster and his like. They'd be able to watch informercials or dumb cartoons.
So, don't let The Huckster fool you. Mitt ain't even his real name. It's Willard. Wasn't that the name of an old movie about rats? Hmm....
"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what.
Hmm....

Applause for Joe the Janitor from Sandy Creek, NY
After the announcement that the supreme court had upheld the Affordable Health Care Act, the talk shows were abuzz with expert opinion. On NPR's Talk of the Nation yesterday, host Neal Conan asked a 27 year old caller if he intended to buy health insurance, or if he would take the penalty imposed by the IRS. The caller, Joe from Sandy Creek, NY said he was a part-time janitor,(and therefore didn't make a lot of money), but that of course he would buy health insurance as it was his duty as an American. He would pay into the system now, even though he was young and healthy, and expected he would need to use it later as he got older. The change in the system has "got to start somewhere," he said.
His response drew applause from the distinguished panel and guests on the NPR show being broadcast from the Ideas conference in Aspen, Colorado.
Joe the Janitor, that other Joe ( the Plumber) could learn a few things from you. Thanks!

I'm Dreaming of an Electronic Free Christmas...just like the ones I used to know
I remember hiking through the back forty for our Christmas tree. Us kids would wade through thigh high snow to find a good spruce tree. My oldest brother would climb the tree and cut off the top and we would all drag it back through the Tug Hill snows to the house. Oftentimes it was a lot bigger than it looked in the woods and we would have to trim it down considerably to fit into the corner of the livingroom. The sweet aroma of freshly cut evergreen permeated the old farmhouse. Ah, Christmas!
These days what permeates is the sound of clicking fingers on keyboards and the silent hum of the internet. My days of tromping through the snow have long gone and my plastic tree is prelit. I could buy a candle with evergreen scent if I wanted to simulate the smell of a real tree. Sigh. What have I, we, become? When did misplacing the cell phone become the reason I don't dare to drive to the store? When did spider solitare replace a game of rummy with friends? I usually am able to get on my high horse and blame someone else, but, sadly, I am a part of it all. I love being able to see what is going on in the world with a few key strokes and to write my two cents worth.
Still, just one more time, I would like to shut everything off, sit quietly listening to the sounds of a wood fire and remember......

Occupying Wall Street and Moving on to Arsenal Street
Left the laptop at home so it was a blog blackout for me for several weeks now as I have been supporting my nephew with a master's degree from Kenshire College and no job in site. He started camping out in the little park near Wall Street with others to protest the greed and corruption that got us into this hellacious never ending job stagnation event. First, he wanted a job, any job and so hearing that there were lots of jobs out west filled by illegal immigrants, he thought there might be one for him as well, but alas, the owners were not interested because they would have to put him on the books and the illegal immigrants were experienced and therefore so much faster than him at picking spinach. Dejected, he came back to New York. When a friend called to ask if he wanted to participate in a protest, he went.
So I went to visit him there and ended up staying for six weeks. Air is a little chilly now and my 71 year old bones don't take the cold so I am back north. Catching up on sleep and trying to put the whole experience into some perspective.
For those of you interested in directed information about Occupy Wall Street, you can click
www.occupywallst.org
So, back in the beautiful calm north country and I find that the movement has arrived here, in the Siberia of New York. There is a photo of occupiers on public square in Watertown. I still trying to get warm so I can't join you, but I do have one suggestion: move your Occupation up a bit further on Arsenal Street, perhaps Outer Arsenal Street where there is lots of corporate greed activity going on. Little Peanut Park on Public Square in Watertown has been occupied already for years by some of the victims of our corporate culture: the homeless. Business itself on Public Square is itself a victim of corporate culture. The fine little stores and restaurants located there now are lovely, but Public Square is just a shadow of its former self. Move up the street on Arsenal, find a corner in a parking lot at one of the megastores or malls. Maybe as people are getting out of their cars to head to the stores to load upon goods from China they will pause for a moment and think.

Dear Nancy Grace -
Dear Nancy Grace and Cronies:
Congratulations on the recent highest ratings ever. Your tears over the Casey Anthony non-guilty verdict were on spot for the occasion. Now that you've got the momentum going, how about shifting your ever powerful talking head toward the other child murders to be prosecuted in the same area? Or, don't they meet your criteria for media sensationalism? Are the victims non-white? Are they poor, black or hispanic and don't meet your definition of cute? What is truly amazing in the coverage of this tragic situation, the hundreds of people congregating at the courthouse, the thousands (or is it millions) commenting on hundreds (or is it thousands) of websites and blogs and facebook posts express their utter horror over the verdict, but they have no awareness or opinion whatsoever of the child murders in their own communities. The medical examiner could not determine a cause of death. So the jury couldn't convict.
Our society has supposedly come a long way since the days when an abused child's greatest agency of protection was the S.P.C.A. But ask any local child protective services or law enforcement authority and you will be told of numerous attrocities to children that are difficult to prove, go under the radar and go unpunished. For example: a four month old infant dies when his parent "rolls over" on him. He's taken to the hospital but we are too busy watching Nancy Grace carry on to notice the ambulance on our street. The physician examining the child notes evidence of abuse. But the family of the victim's parent has money. Clout. The child's grandparents are best friends with the publishers of the only newspaper in town. There is nothing reported in the media. Not even an obituary for the child. The family asks for a second opinion from another physician and the results are inconclusive - no obvious signs of abuse to the dead child. No charges are filed. The public, Nancy Grace and cronies, is not even aware that this baby has lived and died. It happens on your street. But keep watching headline news. Nancy Grace will get tell you what to think.

Attention New Parents: Save Your Baby's LONG FORM
Today I asked my daughter, who lives in Arizona, if she had the long form of my grandchildren's birth certificates and she said no, it must have got lost in the move because she couldn't find it and had to get replacement birth certificates for her twins Jeffrey and Jane when they started kindergarten.
"Great," I said, "There go my dreams of one of my grandchildren becoming president of the United States."
"Huh?"
"YOUR state is trying to pass a law that will only allow someone to run for president if they have the long form birth certificate," I explained.
"Huh?" she said again.
"Never mind, I'll e-mail it to you."
So I sent her this:
"So whose behind it? Those people who don't believe Barak Obama is a natural born citizen?"
"Them and Donald Trump. "I said. "If they do this crap, they better warn parents to save their children's long form birth certificates in the event that their child becomes a presidential candidate."
"Right. Well, we're not even worried about student council yet," she said.
"Maybe not, but I bet Ann Dunham would have saved it somehow if she'd known her son was going to grow up to be president. Then there wouldn't be all these wacky conspiracy theorists prompting such dumb laws that affect my grandchildren!!"
"Well, try not to worry too much. By the time Jane and Jeffrey have reached the qualified age to be president the courts will have long since thrown it out," she said.
"They better. It's just not right to impede on the rights of my grandchildren to be president!"
So here's to you Ann Dunham. I know that if you had lived to see your son become president the "birther's" would not be obsessing about this because you could have filled in all the smallest of details of the most memorable event in any mother's life.

Since you're not here to defend him, some of us will try to do right by you and dispel the nonsense. Once again:

Within ten days after submittal of the names of the candidates, the national political party committee shall submit an affidavit of the presidential candidate in which the presidential candidate states the candidate's citizenship and age and shall append to the affidavit documents that prove that the candidate is a natural born citizen, prove the candidate's age and prove that the candidate meets the residency requirements for president of the United States as prescribed in Article ii, Section 1, Constitution of the United States. The affidavit prescribed in subsection a shall include references to and attachment of all of the following, which shall be sworn to under penalty of perjury:She called back.
1. A certified copy of the presidential candidate's long form birth certificate that includes at least the date and place of birth, the names of the hospital and the attending physician, if applicable, and signatures of any witnesses in attendance. If the candidate does not possess a long form birth certificate as required by this paragraph, the candidate may attach two or more of the following documents that shall take the place of the long form birth certificate if the candidate swears to their authenticity and validity and the documents contain enough information for the secretary of state to determine if the candidate meets the requirements prescribed in Article ii, Section 1, Constitution of the United States:
(a) early baptismal or circumcision certificate.
(b) hospital birth record.
(c) postpartum medical record for the mother or child signed by the doctor or midwife or the person who delivered or examined the child after birth.
(d) early census record.
